Can a 2 week old sleep in a sleeping bag?

Short answer: Yes, once your baby meets the bag's minimum weight (most makers say about 4kg). Choose the right size so they cannot slip down inside.

Babies change fast, so the answer depends on your child's age, weight and development, and on your product's instructions.

What the guidance says

  • A well-fitted baby sleeping bag is an alternative to blankets. Most makers base suitability on weight (usually around 4kg) rather than age, so check the label.
  • The Lullaby Trust does not publish a tog chart, because fabrics, layers and babies differ. Use the room temperature as a guide and check your baby's chest or neck.
  • Sleeping bags: look for BS EN 16781:2018.
