Safer sleep: mattresses and bedding
Firm, flat, waterproof and well fitting: here is what to look for in a cot mattress and bedding, in line with UK safer-sleep guidance.
What it is
Look for mattresses made to BS 7177 and BS EN 16890, with no pillows, bumpers or loose duvets for babies under 12 months. Baby sleeping bags with the correct TOG for the room temperature are a popular alternative to blankets.
