Will a cot fit in a small nursery?

Short answer: A cot is usually more compact than a cot bed, which helps in smaller nurseries. Leave space to walk round it and open drawers and doors.
  • Check the internal size and buy a mattress that fits with no gaps.
  • Adjustable base heights let you lower the mattress as your baby learns to sit and stand.
  • Teething rails protect the top rails from little teeth.

What the guidance says

  • If a full cot will not fit, the Lullaby Trust suggests a travel cot, set up with the same safer-sleep advice.
  • Place the cot away from radiators, direct sunlight and blind cords.
