Does breastfeeding reduce the risk of SIDS?
Here is the detail behind that answer, taken from current UK guidance from the NHS and the Lullaby Trust.
Things to check
- Sit in it, or check the seat height and depth, so your feet rest flat and your arms are supported.
- Gliders and rockers can help with settling. Keep them away from where toddlers play.
- Never fall asleep with your baby in a chair.
What the guidance says
- The Lullaby Trust says research shows any amount of breastfeeding reduces the risk of SIDS, and formula-fed babies whose families follow the other advice also benefit.
- Always place your baby on their back to sleep, in the feet-to-foot position (feet at the bottom of the cot, Moses basket or pram).
