Do I need a nursing chair?

Short answer: It is optional, but many parents find a supportive chair helps with feeds. Never fall asleep with your baby in an armchair or on a sofa.

Here is the detail behind that answer, taken from current UK guidance from the NHS and the Lullaby Trust.

Things to check

  • Sit in it, or check the seat height and depth, so your feet rest flat and your arms are supported.
  • Gliders and rockers can help with settling. Keep them away from where toddlers play.
  • Never fall asleep with your baby in a chair.

What the guidance says

  • Never sleep on a sofa or in an armchair with your baby.
