When should I buy a stair gate?
Short answer: Buy in time for when you will first use it: from when your baby starts moving, usually crawling. For newborn essentials, many parents order in the second trimester to allow for delivery and assembly.
- Check the maker's instructions say the gate is suitable for the top of the stairs before you fit it there.
- Measure the opening carefully, including any skirting boards.
- Check that the gate locks and closes properly every time.
