When should I buy a baby bath?

Short answer: Buy in time for when you will first use it: from birth. For newborn essentials, many parents order in the second trimester to allow for delivery and assembly.
  • Check it is stable on your bath or floor.
  • Check how it drains, dries and stores.
  • Keep everything you need within reach before you start.

What the guidance says

  • Never leave your baby alone in the bath, even for a second. The water should be warm, not hot: run the cold first, then check it with your wrist or elbow.
  • The NHS notes that RoSPA recommends not using baby bath seats.
