What questions should I ask before buying a pram?

Short answer: Is it suitable from birth (lie flat)? Does it fit my boot and hallway? Can I fold it one-handed? Which car seats fit? What is in the box?

Here is the detail behind that answer, taken from current UK guidance from the NHS and the Lullaby Trust.

Things to check

  • Check the folded size against your car boot and hallway.
  • Try the handlebar height, the weight and the one-hand fold.
  • Check whether a car seat can click on, and which adapters you need.

What the guidance says

  • Always place your baby on their back to sleep, in the feet-to-foot position (feet at the bottom of the cot, Moses basket or pram).
  • It is fine for a baby to fall asleep in a car seat while you travel, but take them out as soon as you arrive.
