Can a 2 month old sleep in their own room?

Short answer: Not yet. The NHS advises keeping your baby in a cot or Moses basket in your room for every sleep for at least the first 6 months. The 6-month point is about 4 months away.

Babies change fast, so the answer depends on your child's age, weight and development, and on your product's instructions.

What the guidance says

  • The NHS advises placing your baby in a separate cot or Moses basket in the same room as you for every sleep, day and night, for at least the first 6 months.
  • Follow safer-sleep advice for every sleep until your baby is 12 months old (12 months from the due date for premature babies).
