Setting up a safe sleep space at grandparents' house

Short answer: A travel cot set up like a cot, with its own mattress and nothing extra, is a simple option for overnight stays.

Step by step

  • Share your routine with grandparents.
  • Bring the same sleeping bag.
  • Check the room temperature.

What the guidance says

  • Travel cots need the same safer-sleep set-up as a cot: a rigid frame and base and a firm, flat mattress. Do not add folded blankets or a quilt under the baby.
  • Keep the routine consistent. Babies who usually sleep on their backs but are sometimes put on their fronts are at higher risk.
  • Always place your baby on their back to sleep, in the feet-to-foot position (feet at the bottom of the cot, Moses basket or pram).
