Room sharing for the first six months: a practical set-up
Step by step
- Choose a compact sleep space that fits beside your bed.
- Keep it away from radiators, sunlight and blind cords.
- Use the same routine for naps and nights.
What the guidance says
- The NHS advises placing your baby in a separate cot or Moses basket in the same room as you for every sleep, day and night, for at least the first 6 months.
- Place the cot away from radiators, direct sunlight and blind cords.
- Never use a hot water bottle or electric blanket, and do not place the cot next to a radiator, heater or fire, or in direct sunlight.
